Back at Loggerhead

Wednesday December 28, 2016 - January 10, 2017

The weather has been perfect since our return - most days making it into the low 80's. Cold front hit us on Friday and we had one day in the 60's with a chilly Northerly, but temps recovered into the 70's and 80's by New Years Day.

Steve Koch arrived on Friday and is quickly knocking off my job list. The Pilot House AC is working again! My new reading light is installed. The three AC pumps are now remounted on star board. The faulty bow-thruster breaker has been replaced. The port engine fuel injectors have been removed and are being reconditioned. Steve will be back Monday.

We have made a deal with a painter and he promises to start work on January 9, 2017. We have ordered a new dinghy cover and it is promised by the end of January. Deidre and I have been busy. We have completed varnishing the the fly bridge cabinetry and I am now putting it back together.

We have extended our stay at this marina another month to allow time for the projects to be completed. We are only allowed to sleep on Tide hiker 10 days a month in this marina (weird!) so we have booked flights to Phoenix to catch up with friends and check out our Anthem house (and arrange for it to be painted!) We fly out of Orlando on the 11th and return on the 24th.

Friends Barb and Don are also at this marina. We have also run into friends we met in the Bahamas, so our social life has been pretty good.

First time I have washed the dinghy in 5 years!

Steve has finished his project list in record time. Today I started sanding the cap rails in anticipation of varnish tomorrow. Once the cap rails are varnished I will be heading to the ER to do a big clean up.  (Boats are fun, but they are lots of work.) AmazingMail is doing OK and declared a fat dividend for 2016 so we had lunch at the Marina Club today to celebrate. Last night we went to the movies to see "Lion" - set in India and Hobart. (I was never confused where each scene was set.)

Walking from the slips to the club
Three tacos for $6.00 - love it

This morning was overcast and humid with 80% chance of rain. Too wet to varnish. The chance of rain 100 miles south in Miami was only 40% so we decided to go to Miami for the day. We were parked by 12 and headed for lunch on Lincoln Avenue. After lunch we headed to the beach with our Old people" chairs and reading material. It was overcast but comfortably warm and we read until 4:30 PM. The traffic getting out of miami was bad so we decided to stop in West pail Beach at my favorite salad restaurant and for Deidre to drop her "Brighton" watch off for repair. Home in bed by 10PM.

Another week in paradise and I am not sure where all the time went. The painters arrived Saturday to get an early start. They need decent weather and Saturday was good. Earlier in the week a cold front that had brought blizzards to Cleveland brought freezing temps to Charleston and the 50s to us in Stuart. Electric blanket time. The Fly Bridge cabinets are now varnished and installed. Deidre and I have started on the cap rails and have two coats in place.
