Back to work!

Wednesday, April 24th, 2019

Lynn and Tony arrived today. They have been on the Van-dam for 5 weeks! Thank goodness Collingwood won, Tony is an Essendon supporter!

Saturday, April 27th, 2019

Lynn's Mum died last night. They took their planned flight to Boston, but will cut short their tour and fly back to Australia next week for the funeral. But our 3 days together in Charleston had been good fun.

The dry wall guy promises he will start work on Friday May 3. I ordered 36 sheets of drywall and it will be delivered Monday 4/29/19. I have been chasing the painter. I resumed work on the front yard.

Sunday April 28, 2019

Over the last two days I have expanded the sprinkler system to include the "other side" of the driveway, the two side yards and made preparations to connect into the back yard system. If I have a chance this coming week I will start filling the trenches. I need to order some sand, some gravel, some top soil and the pavers that will go under the new steps. Deidre s sick of the front yard looking so shabby.

Monday April 29, 2019

The building department inspector came today and approved my insulation installation. The Lowe's truck delivered 36 sheets of drywall. I worked in the front yard - set all the sprinkler heads, build a box to surround the controls below ground level and filled in the trenches. But when I tested the solenoid it failed - the thread is stripped so I will have to buy and install a new unit.  Later in the day I started "turning over" the front yard and removing grass and weeds. Deidre helped. Its getting hot.

Tuesday April 30, 2019

Started work on installing our new "safe" in the new foyer closet. Had to get the drywall in first. Picked up Mason and took him to the dentist for a cleaning, then Audrey, then back to their place for dinner. Kylie was working late. Her A/C crashed while we were there.

Wednesday May 1, 2019

Back in the closet, framed out the laundry drain pipe. Met the A/C guy at Ky's. More building supplies at Lowes. (I spent less $$ in South America!). I am also trying to wrap up the new underground plumbing for the sprinklers.

"Curtis" the drywall guy came and the two of us carried 18 sheets of drywall up to the top floor and 18 sheets to the lower floor. Part of my negotiation with him was to help with the job.

Tuesday May 7, 2019

Flew to Phoenix today, rented a car and headed for Bill's.
Party at Dick and Betty's Wednesday night

Friday May 10, 2019

Flew to Burbank and rented a car and drove to Santa Barbara. Our friends Darrell Bass and Mona get married on Saturday.

Friday night dinner party on the pier in Santa Barbara - Dick and Betty, Jay and Lovie, Nick & Lynn, Deidre and Bob. Joined the wedding pre-party at about 10 PM for some speeches etc. Not me!

Saturday we all drove in two cars to Solvang for the day.

Wedding was at the Yacht Club. Very nice. I roasted Darrell and did a good job.

Sunday May 12, 2019

Breakfast at Robert and Debbie's. The weather in Santa Barbara (Capenteria, CA) is always perfect so we ate breakfast in the back yard.Good to see these two guys again.

Deidre flew back to Charleston via Midway (Chicago) but I got off and "went to work.

Monday May 13 - Wednesday May 15, 2019

Working in East Chicago. Curtis started installing drywall on the Wednesday

Friday May 17, 2019

The "replacement" front door assembly was delivered. Curtis still installing drywall

Saturday May 18, 2019

Robbie Gardiner arrived! He has a 3 or 4 day job on a TV show in Charleston. Amazing!

Monday May 20, 2019

I had ordered 5 yards of top soil (for the new front lawn and garden)  1 yard of sand and 1 yard of gravel (for the area under the stairs that we plan to pave), and it all arrived today. I feel under a bit of pressure because the pile looks pretty high and it all has to be off the driveway when we leave for down-under.

Tuesday May 21 - Friday May 24, 2019

Lots of  shovel and barrow work but all the stuff was off the driveway by Friday. Curtis finished mudding and sanding this week also. The front yard is ready for the sod but no point laying the sod till we return from Aus. We are also helping Ky install a "used" swing set for her kids.
