Still windy this AM but the forecast called for the winds to diminish, so we dropped the mooring ball just before 9 AM and headed out. Our plan was to get around to the northern parts of the keys, away from the road and civilization, and anchor in one of the back channels. The wind was an issue because the area we were heading has a lot of shallow water and we needed to "see" the water as we made our way into the anchorage. The wind was 20 plus most of the way.
Have I ever mentioned how many police forces there are in the USA, especially since 9/11? And they all seem to be in new boats with three 400 HP outboards and 50 cal machine guns on the bow. Anyway, as we tootled along the northern extremes of the keys, a "Florida Fish and Wildlife" fast boat buzzed us twice. No blue lights.
We carefully made our way into the Johnston Key channel and anchored a few miles "in" surrounded by half a dozen small mangrove islands. As forecast, the wind has died and the sun has come out and all is well with the world. Deidre has gone below for a snooze, I have opened a new bottle of flavored rum. All is well.

Deidre has just enjoyed her breakfast on the aft deck. She just returned and expressed her delight with her surroundings - warm sunshine, calm water, cold yogurt, still in pajamas, no noises, no other boats, no aeroplanes, reception on her ipad, handsome husband I think that was the complete list.

Generator Report: So far we have "lived" on the solar panels and generator for 5 days. "Touch wood", the generator has performed flawlessly. Because the weather has been nice and sunny the panels are putting in steady power during daylight and so we have only needed to run the gen for about 30 minutes first thing in the morning (for the coffee machine and the toaster) and just before bed.
